The Art of Makeup School partnered up with Cobalt Studios PDX to create some incredible pictures during two of Cobalt’s photography workshops!

Cobalt Studios is one of Portland’s favorite and popular photography studios, which isn’t surprising, as the owner Michaela couldn’t be a nicer person.  Michaela consistently brings the local fashion community together by offering fun and creative photography workshops where models, hair and makeup artists, photographers, and designers and stylists come together to create art.  When we reached out to Michaela to see if we could get in on the action, she was excited to have an exclusive team of hair and makeup artists come from The Art of Makeup for her next workshop!

The workshop taught photographers how to use split lighting among other types of lighting with special filters. As you can see below split lighting creates multiple colors around the models.  Our team of makeup artists had to learn how to match and adjust the makeup colors to achieve the results they were looking for in this new type of lighting they hadn’t worked with before. Not only was it an educational experience, but it was an opportunity for students to work in a real studio with 6 professional photographers and a professional model.  All 6 photographers took turns shooting each model, so the students got to receive tons of amazing and professional picture options for their portfolio.

AND…the shoot went so well that Michaela invited the team back for the next workshop, Old Hollywood Glamour!  Students and grads of The Art of Makeup School returned to Cobalt for 1920’s makeup and hair.  Since students also learn modern and vintage hair styling skills during their program, they were able to incorporate their skills into this fun glamorous look.
