Emily Bowerman came to us with a goal in mind; she wanted to learn makeup, aesthetics, and open her own salon.  This wouldn’t be just any salon.  This salon would be a unique experience and would match Em’s personal esthetic. She was planning on owning a gothic salon with all the decorative expression you would expect from this genre of creativity!

Well, she did it! She will be opening her salon The Blood Countess Aesthetics & Cosmetic Artistry this month! The name is quite appropriate, having been a phlebotomist for 8 years.  The Blood Countess is also named after a Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory who bathed in blood to sustain her youth.

Em first took our Fashion Makeup Artistry program, building her beauty, fashion, decade and hair styling skills with application on herself and others.  She learned basic beauty and corrective makeup techniques as well as fantasy and vintage makeup looks.  She also learned creative hair styling skills that she will be able to use on photo and video shoots as well as performances like fashion shows. 

In fact, last year she took advantage of The Art of Makeup job board opportunity, and worked on Portland Fashion Week, doing makeup on the models before she unexpectedly got pulled into the show to be a model herself!

Her next step was attending Spectrum Advanced Aesthetics Institute where she received her aesthetics license just as planned!

But what we’re really here to talk about is her GRAND OPENING of her new salon in Salem, OR!
