I worked with Jimmy Carter

I’ve been lucky enough in my career as a makeup artist to work with many notable and very important persons that have shaped our country and will forever be remembered in our history. One of those people was our President Jimmy Carter who passed away only 2 days ago at age 100!
I met him at the Democratic National Convention in 2000 when I was assigned to do makeup for Good Morning America and other news shows stationed at what was called The Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. It was one of the most exciting jobs I’ve ever had, despite my sleep deprivation. My call time for Good Morning America was 2am. I would catch a quick nap and then work during the day too. I didn’t mind though. I got to powder Jimmy Carter’s nose! I also did makeup for Ted Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, and Kristin Gore along with reporters and anchors. I kept very busy, and loved it. I hung out in the basement with the C.I.A. How exciting!
Carter was born in 1924. He lived through a lot of changes in this country, and he helped make some of them happen. He opposed racial segregation and supported the civil rights movement. Carter established the Carter Center to promote and expand human rights and received a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work related to it. He created an energy conservation policy with new technology. He defeated Ted Kennedy and Gerald Ford, both who I also got to do makeup on!
There are many more notable accomplishments from our beloved President Jimmy Carter that I haven’t mentioned, but personally, I’m excited I got to meet a key person in history! He was loved by so many. I’m so lucky that makeup artistry has brought so many amazing opportunities to meet so many wonderful people.
